The PRP Treatment Process
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a medical treatment that uses a concentration of your own platelets to promote healing in injured or diseased tissues. Below is a summary on how the PRP treatment process works and how PRP is applied to your body.
Step 1 – Blood Collection
Dr Ryan Kohler draws a small amount of your blood, typically between 10 to 20 mls, from a vein in your arm, similar to a routine blood test. The platelet cells contain growth factors that promote healing and repair.

Step 2 – Extracting Plasma from your blood
The collected blood is placed in a centrifuge. This is a special machine that spins the blood at high speed to separate its components.
The centrifuge isolates the platelet-rich plasma from red blood cells and other components.
It’s important to be aware that all centrifuge machines are different.
Dr. Ryan Kohler has invested heavily in a centrifuge that separates the plasma to the highest standard.
This ensures you are provided with highest quality of platelet rich plasma possible.
The plasma that is made available contains a higher concentration of platelets than normal blood can offer, often 3 to 5 times higher.

Step 3 – Injecting Platelet Rich Plasma to injured area
The area to be treated can be a joint, tendon, or muscle. Dr Ryan Kohler always uses ultrasound imaging to guide the injection and ensure precise placement of the platelet rich plasma (PRP) into the injured or affected tissue.
This is important because the actual application of plasma to the specific region of the injured area is a crucail part of what makes this treatment a success.
Dr Ryan Kohler is highly skilled in utilising ultrasound imaging to guide accurate injection PRP therapy to the injured structure.
When released in the right region, the concentrated platelet rich plasma releases growth factors at the site of injury, which accelerates tissue repair and reduces pain.

Step 4 – Aftercare
The entire procedure usually takes less 30 to 40 minutes and is performed at Sports Injuries HQ.
There may be some swelling or discomfort at the injection site for a few days as the platelet-rich plasma stimulates a healing response.
Patients are often advised to rest for about 72 hours post-injection. Day-to-day activities are permissible.
